The cleaning process began with vacuuming every square inch of carpet to eliminate surface dirt and debris. Next, the carpet was power raked and vacuumed again to ensure thorough removal of grit, grime, debris, and hair from deep within the carpet fibres.

 

Then a strong alkaline solution was applied to the carpets and left to soak. The carpets were then power raked to agitate the detergent, followed by extraction with an acidic rinse to remove chemicals. A concentrated antibacterial odour neutraliser was used and left for one hour to break down odour-causing enzymes. Finally, heat extraction at 60°C removed the chemical, odours, germs, and bacteria.

 

The staircase was given the exact same treatment, but this was cleaned using the hand tool which is far more labour intensive and caused many beads of sweat to run along Lee’s brow!

 

To finish, the now fully cleaned and restored carpets are brushed to reset the pile direction and allowed to dry. See attached photos for the before and after comparison.

Nowadays a cheap twisted loop carpet of medium quality runs at £13.99 per sq metre on average. With a wool carpet they start at around £29.99 per sq metre. So a replacement carpet for a room of 15’x 12’ would be between £250 and £600 depending on the quality of the carpet. Then you add the cost of fitting and underlay so subsequently the price rises even more.
