Professional cleaning of faux suede (often called microsuede or Alcantara) typically involves specialized equipment and low-moisture techniques to prevent damage like delamination or water rings. Unlike real suede, most faux versions are synthetic (polyester/nylon) and can withstand controlled wet cleaning, but they are notorious for trapping body oils and grease.

Synthetic fibres in faux suede respond to moisture compared to natural suede, reinforcing why controlled wet cleaning is suitable and must be conducted by a qualified technician.

Lee used a high-powered commercial vacuum with a soft brush attachment to lift dust and grit from deep within the fibres.

Initially there is a pre-treatment process using specialized pH-balanced cleaning agents or citrus-based pre-washes that are then applied to break down "bonded" soils like body oils and sweat.

Lee then used a soft-bristled upholstery brush to work the cleaner into the fibres, which loosened the stubborn stains without abrading the delicate nap. Our hot water extractor removed the dirt and cleaning solution simultaneously. The key is to "wet and vacuum in one motion" to avoid soaking the backing.

The preferred method is to towel-dry the fabric to speed up evaporation. While the fabric is still slightly damp, Lee has a specialized suede brush to "reset the nap" so it remains soft and uniform once dry.
